A lot of people ask me about how and why this Tee shirt brand exists. So I’m taking the time to create this page and tell my story. SO without further a due, here it goes!....
A little about me, "Cr1k" is just a regular guy from Newport News, VA who happens to draw and have an interest in art. I went to a small but very informational community college in Hampton, VA. I just about learned how to do every aspect in graphic design form print media to web design. Being a graphic designer with only an associate degree, I encountered some work experiences over the years that helped me master my craft. I worked for a range of professions around my talent. I landed jobs designing tees for a local military distribution company. Also doing freelance under Cr1k design studio. Then worked with a video production company doing videography and motion graphics. Then I worked for a photography company designing beautifully laid out wedding leather bound photobooks. And me being curious, I just dabbled and picked up a little photography skills. Not so much though, obviously I didn’t come out to be a photographer. And let’s not forget a local screen printing shop. Right then, I wanted to print my own tees but....no money. "See where this is going" ...THEN the career opportunity door opened! To design for a new clothing brand called Imperial junkie. Then jumped to designing for Azzure, and now A.K.O.O. "T.I.s clothing line." So being in that industry for awhile and seeing how cut throat and controlled it is. I wanted to create something pure, and not trending. I had to rebel....
"I can start a brand" like everyone else and their mom. But I had to do something different from them. Everyone designs or get designs, get invertors, and go to a screen printer and start a line. I can’t do that, because I have no money and no credit. I tried looking for a way to print tees cheap, when local screen printers I knew still hitting me in my head with prices I can’t afford.
In searching around the net, I found some plans on how to build a 4 color screen printing press. I CAN DO THAT! Printed out the plans and headed straight to home depot and bought the materials I needed. Very CHEAP! I’m a very crafty dude, so I went to work in my garage. Also thinking back on my screen printing experiences, I will need other materials. I saw a video on YouTube on how to build a light table. So I took that and went a step further. I built a light table with a timer and a lid to expose the screens. Then I made a rack for the screens. I hung up trash bags for the dark room. Then BOOM! A fully operational screen printing shop in a work room connected to the garage.
On creating the name of the brand I was about to bust out my little workroom, I wanted to do something rebellious. I want to world to recognize what I’m doing, but a few will understand the message behind this brand. soooo..International Rebel Street. No that doesn’t sound right. International Rebel Club.....dope!
So I designed an iconic logo people can identify with. I was working with a series of drawings and paintings at the time, and consist of these little robots with the helmets. The helmet was inspired by characters in the video game and pop cutler world. I.e. Halo, Killzone, Fallout, and Star wars. I wanted a logo that’s fun but aggressive and means to stand up and be a hero for yourself.
Once everything was set up, some designs are done, ordered some quality blank tees and got to work. Also I got these black shipping boxes and printed the logo on them. I had to have a rebel box to ship tees and other goodies!
I printed the tees, then on to the website. I designed the website and launched rebel-club.com along with the 5 different limited tees. International Rebel Club was born to the world with no bank loans, credit cards, investors, and overhead. Just me and my crafty two hands that is literally building clothing brand from the ground up.
It started with one that built a club house, and opened it to those who want to be rebels and be free individuals that don’t want to be labeled by a brand, but just want to wear creative dope graphic tees.
So with that said..... I answer to NO ONE.
