The rewards of creating

You already know that there are rewards for creating, and the biggest reward is that you create a piece of art.

Now I know there are a lot of you who feel that they cannot do this.

That the thing they intend to create is too intimidating…. that it will never look as good… The feeling of failure is lurking right around the corner.

And you may be right. Because when I start my creative process, there is always that little voice that is going on and on and on about making the art that I have in mind. I used to focus on the end result. Because as a designer this was what I learned.

"If you just create what you want to create, you'll have the reward you were looking for"

No, not really. I have learned over the years.

Creating has rewards but it's NOT creating what you planned to create.

Just because of the simple fact, that you might not create what you set out to create.

Does that mean, you suck. Your work is ugly, wrong or bad.

No not at all.

The reward is creating itself. Losing yourself in the work, the playfulness in which you create your art. The moment when you forget the time.... that is the reward.

In simple terms, it makes you happy, it gives you joy. Your well-being is what I am talking about here.

It really doesn't matter what you create, it doesn't matter what skill level you are. It doesn't even matter how long you create.

Now for a second let's go back to that end result. The one that keeps us stuck most of the time. Because you tried to make it look like this and look at it. "It's a mess".

If you are set on creating a specific end result- it will disappoint.

And creating art is NOT about the end result. It's about becoming you, enjoying the process and most of all it's about life.

It's a way for you to show who you are, what you love, and what colours mean to you, a place to share memories, experiences and your vision of the world past, future or present. That is what creating art is all about.

It's LIFE.

Now that doesn't mean I love everything I make but I do love making everything.

I hope this resonates with you.
